In several of my education administration classes I introduce the Enneagram personality typing system as a way of helping aspiring and practicing school leaders understand themselves and others better. The Enneagram is a powerful personality profiling system with nine distinct types that not only describe various personality behaviors, but also why people do the things they do - and how they can become more effective in their communication and relationships.
So I was tickled to read this article about how Rooney Mara, star of the new movie The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (based on the hit novel trilogy by Stieg Larssen), used the Enneagram to prepare for her role as computer hacker/mystery solver/butt kicker Lisbeth Salandar. Evidently director David Fincher is an Enneagram enthusiast, and Lisbeth is a Type Five.
To learn more about the Enneagram, visit the Enneagram Institute website. To discover your own type, take this online self-assessment, but these things are never 100 percent accurate. Ultimately you have do study all nine types and do some honest self assessment to firmly identify your type. It's worth it.
