It was especially telling that one of the very first acts of the new Beshear board was to disband the Finance Committee that the Bevin board had established to try and get better financial accounting for the billions of dollars Kentucky spends on K to 12 education. The current lack of fiscal transparency is highly unacceptable and needs to be remedied. The current, highly inadequate school level financial reports might not even comply with requirements of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.

Still, the Finance Committee remains disbanded today and so far the Beshear board has shown no interest in addressing these issues.
